Preamble
Hello! My name is Aiden, currently a student in RRC's Cybersecurity Program. As of writing this, the program only officially supports students have Windows computers, which to be clear, is an entirely reasonable decision.
But as someone who has fully switched over to Linux as my primary OS, and is fairly familiar with what is possible, I saw that everything required by the course was possible to make work on Linux. I was also willing take responsibility and invest the needed time and effort to succeed in ensuring all the required software was usable for me.
The goal of this documentation is to help inform anyone who many be interested in that same goal, to help take the guesswork and significantly reduce the amount of time, knowledge and effort required to succeed in doing so. And perhaps to present this to the devlopers of the program to demonstrate the possibly of supporting students who wish to use a Linux OS for coursework.
Description
In this documentation you will find documents outlining the various software utilised by the various courses in the Cybersecurity program, how they can be installed, setup and use on Linux where the instructions differ from Windows. For the most part, once setup or even just installed, the instructions are identical to the course material. I've also done my best to tag which classes made use of that software.
In some cases I have also highlighted alternatives that tend to function better on Linux where a specific program was not required.
I also go over setting up and using various tools that may be referenced by some installation guides.
